The Naked Foot 5K is coming! And a Merrell product giveaway!

Time to use my Internet presence to plug something.

It's been several months since I last mentioned the race that I'm helping put on in Minneapolis.  For those who don't know, The Naked Foot 5K is a national barefoot 5k race series with 7 events being held all over the country.  The best one of course is the Minneapolis event, which will be held around Lake Nokomis on August 20, 2011 at 9am.

And a ton of exciting things that have happened since I first became race director.  First, Merrell became our national sponsor.  Having the backing of the biggest name in "barefoot" running shoes gives the race a ton of street cred.  It also gives race participants a chance to meet Merrell's favorite sponsored transient family, the Robillards.  Jason and Shelly Robillard will both be making an appearance at the run.  And Jason will be putting on a barefoot running clinic at Tradehome Shoes in Rochester on August 18, 2010.  Here's a link to their facebook event for more info.  They will also be around to do a group run in Rochester on August 17th.  I think there is also an informal group of people looking to get drunk and then make a hasty tattoo purchase.

But the barefoot-palooza doesn't stop there.  Another one of our national sponsors is Barefoot Running Step by Step by The Grandmaster himself....Ken Bob Saxton.  Ken Bob will be in town for the event, and will also be putting on a barefoot running clinic at Gear Running Store in Edina.  The twin towers of barefoot power in the same state at the same time?  The last time this many immortals were drawn together, Christopher Lambert cut off Clancy Brown's head with a samurai sword.

There can be only one!

Anyway, there are a ton of 5Ks in this world.  But this is the one and only time that you can get in on the ground floor of a race like this.  I think this race is going to grow into something really big as minimal shoes gain in popularity.  Wouldn't it be cool to say you were at the first one?  This race should be on the radar of everyone within driving distance of Minneapolis/St. Paul!

Giveaway!

So I said to myself, what could I do to have an even bigger turnout at this little event?  Well, I could bribe people of course!  So here's how it's going to work.  I need your help in the next few weeks to publicize the event.  So if you do my bidding, you will be entered in a drawing to win A FREE PAIR OF MERRELL GLOVE SHOES!  You can choose from anything in the Merrell line, including the upcoming 2012 products described in Barefoot Running University's sneak peek post.  You will get one entry for each of the following:

1. Sharing this post on your facebook and/or twitter accounts (or blog, or Google+ if you have one)
2. Posting a link to http://www.thenakedfoot5k.com/ on your facebook and/or twitter account

PLUS, if you register for one of the 7 Naked Foot races (or are already registered) around the country, you'll get an ADDITIONAL 3 ENTRIES in the contest.  Boom goes the dynamite!

Anyway, after you enter the contest, please post what you did in the comment section.  The contest lasts until August 22, 2011.  I will announce the winner on my blog.

Happy race promoting citizens!
